The world is witnessing The “Hastening of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Missionary Work”

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is having an unprecedented surge in the number of missionaries that are going throughout the world to preach the gospel. This surge has happened since the announcement by Church President Thomas S. Monson in October 2012 General Conference that 18-year old boys and 19-year old girls would be eligible to server missions, instead of the 19-year and 21-year previous limits for boys and girls respectively.

At the time of President Monson’s announcement of the age change, the Church had around 58,000 missionaries serving throughout the world. A year later that number is more than 80,000 and still growing. The Church expects that number could possibly grow to 100,000 or more. To account for this surge in the number of missionaries the Church had to create an additional 58 missions and some other missions have seen their number of missionaries double.
